This was written early summer 2012 but I forgot to post it:

Hi Folks,

Don't worry I still love my bunnies and hopefully they still love me.
I have sold all of Snowflakes first litter. The last one went when he was about 6 months old. Micheal Jackson was the last to go. I was really getting attached to him. I think I waited to long.

Last Weekend we had a bunny wedding. Snowflake and Casper were wed. In attendance were, Cathleen, Eric, Haley and Charlotte Dennison, neighbors Chrissy , Grace and Maggie, Hope and her Mom Liz. Charlotte's BFF Allegra was also there wearing her finery with Charlotte. We had cucumber sandwiches, chips and salsa and cake. Also a little bit of the bubbly (ginger ale).

Update of my new bunny litters.

July 19th, 2013,
The most recent litters:  One was out of Mary Ann a Fawn colored doe and fathered by Hershey a chocolate colored buck. Born May 20th, 2013.   7 were born one died after a couple of days :( .
The other was out of Nana a Seal colored doe, and fathered by Casper, a REW buck.  9 babies one dead at birth :( .  Mary Ann made an awesome nest, pulled fur to line nest, and eat really well right up to the birth and after, she gave birth right in the nest and has been a great mother.  Nana did not make a nest, and was not eating well about a week before and a couple of days after.  I put the nest box in and she gave birth on the cage floor.  I was monitoring them closely so right after they were born I took some of Nana's fur that I had been saving to line the nest box and put the babies in.  She took over from there.  She wasn't eating very much and I was concerned.  After a few days her eating improved.  Two of her babies seemed rather small.  I was concerned so I did something I had read about.  I took Nana's healthiest looking baby and took some of Mary Ann's nesting material and rubbed it all over the baby.  I then put it into the nesting box with Mary Ann's other kits.  It worked like a charm she adopted him without a problem.  All of Mary Ann's babies (including the adopted one)  thrived and grew big and round quickly.  Nana still was not eating as much as Mary Ann, but most of her babies accept one was doing well.  I tried taking the small one and holding Nana, to allow it to nurse.  This didn't seem to relaxing for Nana.  The next few days I tried nursing her on Mary Ann.  It worked much better.  You could actually see that she was getting milk.  After a few days the little bunny was catching up to the siblings.  I left her with Nana.   Mary Ann was doing so well, I didn't want to overwhelm her.  All of Nana's babies have survived and thrived. All of Mary Ann's have as well. They are all 9 weeks old and ready to go to their new homes.  Each Mama ended up with 3 does and 4 bucks.  Two of Nana's REW babies have gone to their new homes (a buck and a doe, I am keeping the other REW doe and naming her Crystal).  4 of Mary Ann's 7 have homes, one has left, a buck named Jaycee who was kind of interesting.  He looked Agouti colored (wild rabbit color)  but had a white stripe on forehead and a white spot on the nose.  I swear he had one brown eye and one blue.  He was very cute.  All of Mary Ann's babies had the white forehead stripe and the white spot on the nose.  The chocolate colored buck, Camilla (adopted from Nana),  and the grey and white female Willow are going home with a little girl at the end of the summer.  The fawn and white colored one we call Elle Woods is going home at a later date.  I am keeping one of the two black bucks.  Not only does he have the white stripe on his forehead and white dot on his nose he also has one white foot (like a little white glove) and some white on his chest.  We are naming him Michael Jackson.
These are Mary Ann and Hershey's babies born May 20th.  The little one on the far right and in the food bowl below is a doe and she is available for $25.  The one on the far left (with back facing) is  buck who is also available for $25.  They both have white spots on their noses and foreheads.

The bunnies below are Nana and Casper's babies born May 19th.  They one in the food dish is a Doe, she is a dark grey/chocolate color.  The one whose head is almost out of the cage is a chocolate buck. There is another chocolate buck on the right which isn't to visible.  The one behind the first chocolate buck is also available, he is also a buck he has a mostly white coat with grey tipped ears, nose, tail, paws and some grey on his back end as well (same rabbit in photo with the girl in blue chair).  He is a favorite.  They are all available for $25.

Another photo of Mary Ann's babies.  The one eating is a doe and is available for $25.

I haven't Shared much lately. Here are some more recent Photos:

These two are from the litter we had out of Nana and Casper.  They were born 6/9/2012.  Twelve were born only 6 survived to the 8 week mark when I try to sell them.  We did keep one Buck a chocolate one that Charlotte named Hershey.  (This might be him we had two chocolates, but I have a good one that is coming up)

This one was a cutie.  I didn't mention this but, this litter was all bucks.  The litter we had last October was almost all does. He looked darker in person, but not quite black.

I have to say this one was my favorite.  He was so adorable.  I wish I had a big barn and could house a lot more I definitely would have kept him.  The reason was a fiber one.  His fiber is mostly white as you can see, and I already have 4 very nice all white rabbits so we went with the beautiful chocolate one.

This was Momma (Nana) with the hole crew (B. June 9th, 2012).  I think I'll call this the family hutch it is really huge. I may have to move Nana to another cage when the next litter shows up.  She is in there all alone now.

This is MaryAnne, she was got in trade.  I traded two of my beautiful REW females from my last October litter with two of Mary Ledoux's Fawn colored females from her last October litter.  I named my girls Ginger and MaryAnn and she went with Laverne and Shirley (keeping in the TV sitcom theme).

This is our handsome Hershey.  They get big fast.  I just groomed him this Saturday he is just beautiful and his brown fiber is just a dream.  He also happens to be a very sweet and snuggly rabbit.  He is a keeper!!!

These are most beautiful and beloved REW girls, Snowflake and her daughters, Vanilla and Flurry.  Snowflake and Vanilla live very happily together in the deluxe hutch I had made by Maine Cage company and picked up at West Lebanon Feed and Supply.  Flurry has her own cage, but as you can see they are still get along well.  They are as beautiful and soft as they look.  I just love these girls.  They are so friendly!!!

This is Ginger (R) with her sister MaryAnn (L) that you saw eariler.  They have the incredibly soft fur of the English Angora which they are part.  Ginger has more fur on her face than MaryAnn, this resembles the English more.  MaryAnn's cleaner face resembles their French Angora heritage.  Though they have probably the softest fiber of the bunch they also tend to mat alot more than the other rabbits.  As far as personality, they are not as friendly as the REW's they are not mean just a little nervous.  After holding for awhile they become quite docile.

This is Ebunny (pronounced :Ebony, I just liked the play on words, like email).  She is by far my most skittish rabbit.  I really wanted a black rabbit.  She is not really a true black, but she is quite beautiful.  She does however have a lot of guard hair.  It is so hard to pick a favorite breed of Angora because they all have different things that are appealing about them.  I think that the German/French Cross is pretty good.  (That is what the REW girls above are).

Hi Friends,

Just thought I would update you.  I have bred my Nana to Casper (yes, I know he's married don't tell his wife).  This should be another exciting litter.  It looks as though they should all be solids and about 40% should be sable colored.  At least this is according to my rabbit program.  We shall see. She is due next Wednesday.  Then I was really crazy this time and I allowed Haley to breed her big rabbit to my Tribble.  That one should be interesting too.  She is Half New Zealand and half Flemish Giant.  He is a mixture of Angoras.  According to my program all of them should still be short haired.  I really want an Agouti colored Angora.  The program says I should get agouti coloring.  If I breed a male back to Snowflake or a female back to Casper I have about a 50% chance of getting  an angora rabbit.  Not sure of the Agouti coloring.  I'll keep you all posted.  Haley is supposed to be doing extra credit for Biology based on the breeding.  Get to work Haley, school ends in 2 weeks.

In need of a Rabbit Update

January 17th, 2012,

So it has been a while since I have filled you in on my Rabbit situation.
I don't know if I mentioned that I started a 4-H Rabbit group this past year. I basically have one person who is still pretty interested. I still love my rabbits I have a bunch now. I will update my photos soon. I had a Rabbit wedding between my beautiful Snowflake and my handsome Casper. I invited mostly neighborhood kids and a few adults. I served only rabbit friendly foods. I think I still have a few photos from the wedding. It was very cute. Wow!!! Almost exactly a month later Snowflake out did herself giving birth to 11 all white babies (just so you know only my children were present for the honeymoon). For those of you who don't know about rabbit genetics if you breed two Red-eyed White rabbits you will only get Red-Eyed White babies. Snowflakes last litter was exiting because I had no idea what I would get. This time was kind of boring, but I really love the white babies. Unfortunately 11 was way to many for Snowflake and nature took its course and 4 didn't make it. It was sad, I tried to feed some of them but to no avail. Seven is a much more manageable number. The day after the fourth one died (all within the first week) I came down stairs to find one of the babies on the wire floor of the cage and not in the nest box. "Oh, no!!!" I cried, "not another one". I opened the cage and picked it up. It was very cold and not moving to much, but it was still alive. I called to Haley in the next room, "Haley come in here and help me another baby is in bad shape". I had bought one of those red rubber water bottles for just this kind of thing. Haley and I, for about an hour and a half proceeded to warm the baby and try to get her to drink some of the kitten formula that I had bought. After about an hour and a half I decided that we had probably done as much as we could and I thought she might be better off in the nest with all her siblings to warm her. I really didn't have much hope for her. The next morning I came down to check on them. They were still under a couple of weeks old and in the nest box. I took out the nest box to check on the babies and in the bottom of the pile was the little baby that Haley and I had been trying to save. She was moving more but she was no longer white, she was yellow. Since she was very weak and cold she had made her way down to the bottom of the nest. Being on the bottom all her siblings had peed on her. Just a couple of days later she was completely white again. I guess mom cleaned her up. She still remains smaller than the others but she is by far the sweetest of the bunch. I lovingly call her Urine. Of the seven babies that survived only one turned out to be a boy, the rest were girls. Charlotte fell in love with one of them and has asked to keep it. She now lives in one of the great hutches that I got from the delightful Sue Kenney of Norwich, VT. Charlotte's rabbit has a little companion with her a little black bunny that I bought from Ackers Angoras in Maine. Charlotte's white bunny has been named Flurry and the Black bunny is named Ebunny (pronounced Ebony, I just thought I would spell it in a cute way). ebunny is about the same age as the white babies, they are all about 3 months old now.

I recently started going to a farm in Canaan, Stone Ridge Fiber Farm http://stoneridgefiberfarm.homestead.com/ . The woman who owns it, Mary, holds a fiber night twice a month. I try to go every time. She also has Angora rabbits. In fact, my first Angora that I got from my friend Pam Miller of Main Street Farm in Meriden, NH originated at her farm. Mary still owns his full brother and his mom. Mary had also had a recent litter of all fawn colored babies, nine in all. I had been wanting a fawn colored bunny for a while. We made a deal that we would trade bunnies (she wanted some white rabbits). So when her rabbits were ready to go I picked out two fluffy adorable reddish girls and a couple weeks later I delivered to her a pair of white fluffy girls. I had decided that I wanted to name one of my red girls Ginger, and then I needed a name for the other one. I decided to go with Mary Ann (being a Gilligan's Island Fan). I told Mary the names and in the theme of things she named her two white bunnies, "Laverene and Shirley". To cute, I know. My next litter is going to have to have some "Star Trek" names. My next black/brown female will be Uhura, one of the males of course will be Captain Kirk and another of course will be Spock. Ooooohhh now I can't wait to have another litter. I still have two white girls I am looking for homes for. I think I may need to keep Urine. She is still in the hutch with Mom and they seem very happy together. Not to mention that my neighbor Chrissy from accross the street is madly in love with her and comes over to clean her cage every couple of days. Chrissy helps me more than my own kids. One of the hutches that I got from Sue I put a divider in. They are very large huitches. I have Ginger and Mary Ann on one side and another rabbit I bought this past year named "Nana'. I named her that because her birthday is the same as my Nana's, June 12th. She is very beautiful and quite a nice bunny too.

OK folks that's it for now on the update. I will try to post new photos of everyone this weekend. Have a Hoppy Day!!!!

February 20, 2011

For all of you waiting on rabbit news, all is well.

They are all gaining weight nicely. They have all opened their eyes and are now climbing in and out of the nesting box. They are so cute.

There are still nine. Mom looks tired but is doing well I think. She breathes heavy at times and eats a lot. Just this morning I went down to view the cute little family. The nine babies were all out of the nesting box but still all cuddled together in a bunny pile next to the nesting box. This afternoon one of the three gray ones was sitting inside Mom's food dish. When I walked up to the cage Mom got up from a laying position and tipped over the food dish on top of the baby. The food dish moved across the cage for a few seconds and then junior was out and back to his/her siblings. Today is the first day some of them have tried some dry food. They have also started to eat the hay. Something that Mom might not be to syked about is that they can also come to her for food. Shah Rukh Khan one of the brown ones was attached to her for a while. She didn't even seem to notice he/she was there.

Someone from the Grafton County extension office called yesterday with news of a Rabbbit clinic. I will have to get that group going. It is April 9th. The kids will get to talk about the rabbits and about the Angora breed especially. I think it will be fun.

Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdBKwgJl8h8 to view the most recent bunny video.
